Youth Ministry and Your Family

Youth Ministry encompasses all programs for children PreK- 12th grade and their families. Children’s Liturgy of the Word, and Faith Formation classes encourage participation from even the youngest members of the church community. Sacrament preparation begins in the 2nd grade for First Eucharist and First Penance. Children continue through Faith Formation classes filled with service opportunities, fun activities, and active participation in our church community.

Junior High Faith Formation marks a change in the opportunities for our youth. The child is encouraged to take a more active role in pursuing their journey of faith through Teen Ministry activities, and a greater freedom to choose their service and liturgy involvement. This change in program format allows the Junior High Faith Formation to smoothly flow into the Confirmation program. A three year program centered on allowing the candidates to explore their faith along their own interests. Confirmation candidates meet in small and large groups, and journey through many activities to help them find their place in the church community.

Teen Ministry provides a bridge between the “need to” and the “want to” aspects of the church community. Teen Ministry raises awareness and money for our twin parish in Haiti, as well as supporting local organizations such as BirthRight, Vera House, and Catholic Charities. Teen Ministry is about more than service, and the teens gather for food, fun and conversation several times a month, including “adventure outings” such as Laser Tag, the Zoo, and Tomb Adventure.

Bible Land Adventures is a multi-generational week long adventure through the rich history of our faith. Each day our children join with teen and adult volunteers for stories, games, crafts, music, snacks, and prayer. The adventures culminate on Friday evening with a celebration for our children to share with their families all that they have done and learned.

Our Fearless Leaders

Bonnie Barker

Bonnie has been the Director of Faith Formation since 2006. She is an organized soul who keeps the Youth Ministry Office running relatively smoothly. She loves seeing the joy and excitement on the faces of our children especially when they receive Jesus for the first time; In her “spare” time Bonnie enjoys reading, playing with her cats, and delicious diner breakfasts with her husband.

Kim Lasinski

Kim has been the Youth Minister since 2008,  and has taken a larger role as Confirmation and JH Coordinator in 2013. She loves coming up with new ways to inspire teens and young adults. If there is a way to integrate technology, then she has probably tried. When Kim isn’t chasing the teenagers around the church she is happily, if a little frazzled, raising her three energetic children with her wonderful husband.
